FAMILY SUPPORT

Supporting the Family

Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and caregivers. People with dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s and related diseases have a progressive brain disorder that makes it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate with others, or take care of themselves. In addition, dementia can cause mood swings and even change a person’s personality and behavior. At some point your family member will need 24/7 care. This is a progressive disease, and Fairhaven Lodge offers a progressive solution starting with Day Care, or Respite Care so you can catch your breath or take a holiday break. Then there is the option of full time residential care when it is needed and at Fairhaven Lodge we offer End of Life Care with family input as to wishes. These are important factors to consider. Moving from a familiar environment to a non-familiar is a traumatic event for any person with dementia. At Fairhaven Lodge every effort is made care for residents right up to the end of their lives in order to minimise the fear of moving to a strange new nursing facility and to maintain the homely caring atmosphere which makes residents most comfortable. Fairhaven Lodge Management use the integrated care “Six Steps” program in which individual wishes (where possible) and family wishes are respected : Professionals will visit the home as required and our staff are qualified in End of Life care. We try to look after our loved ones from admission trhough to end of life.
